Clinical IT Coordinator

Job Summary

Assists with the integration of, computer science and information science to communicate data, information, and knowledge in clinical practice. Works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, as a clinical systems expert. Assists with the implementation of staff training addressing the use of clinical systems. Participates with clinical systems improvement activities and staff education.


Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

  • Able to integrate data, information, and knowledge to support patients, nurses, and other clinicians
  • Possesses knowledge of the use of information structures, information processes and information technology
  • Assists with designs, implements, and evaluates information systems, data structures and decision-support mechanisms that support patients, nurses, and providers.
  • Possesses a leadership role implementing and supporting healthcare clinical systems.
  • Updates documentation requirements based on changes to regulatory or accreditation standards.
  • Possesses knowledge of current trends in clinical practice and information systems and is able to apply this knowledge to all clinical staff.
  • Responsible scheduling, delivery and evaluation of clinical systems educational programs and services.
  • Assists with Education within the e-learning environments.
  • Participates in monitoring and evaluation of technology (barcode point of care, rules, order sets, etc.) for continuous improvement.
  • Is a resource person for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other clinicians, as related to technology changes and troubleshooting EMR applications.
  • Works with clinical staff to optimize MR documentation and the use of the EMR as a communication tool.
  • Is knowledgeable of current information technology security and confidentiality, accrediting organization standards, federal and state rules, and regulations.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, Nurse Executive, and administrative team.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Able to be self-directed. Displays strong initiative. Can establish personal goals and take responsibility for meeting them within defined timelines.
  • Works successfully in a team environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Professional Requirements:

  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Wears identification while on duty.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations and accrediting organization standards related to the hospital.
  • Always maintains and ensures patient confidentiality.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Attends annual review and performs departmental in-services.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments, and staff.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Attends meetings, as appropriate.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.


Regulatory Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • College courses related to information technology preferred.
  • Current knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • One (1) year prior experience in nursing informatics required.


Language Skills:

  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.


Skills:

  • High level computer skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
